Ella Rose was born in St. Michaels, Arizona. Before her retirement, she spent 30 years working for the Bureau of Indian Affairs boarding school in Crystal, New Mexico where she, her husband, their daughter and three sons lived in school housing. In 1990 she and her husband moved back to St. Michaels to be closer to her family. Ms. Perry began weaving when she was about 8 years old, learning from her mother. However, she did not weave as a young woman. She returned to weaving only after she had been working in Crystal for several years. Mrs. Perry creates a classic Crystal style, using her own handspun wool in natural and vegetal-dyed colors. Her sister Margaret Kee is also a fine weaver. Mrs. Perry has won a number of awards, including at the Gallup Ceremonial.
