Linda Bitsuie Phillips

Linda is a member of the Bitsuie family of weavers, which consists of her sisters Lorene, Esther and Marie as well as their mother Ruth from whom they all learned the basics of weaving. All weave in the Burnham regional style. Linda's textiles are noted for their well-balanced artistry as well as her technical skill at the loom. She has been widely published, including the book Navajo Weaving Today. The patterns for many of the elements in Linda's designs (kokopelli, bear fetish, pots, etc.) came from Navajo artist Bobby Johnson, with whom her sister Marie lived until his death. Linda's brother Herman Bitsuie is married to Lorene Barber who is the daughter of Anna Mae Barber (Anna Mae is considered the matriarch of the Burnham style). Bobby Johnson was Anna Mae's nephew.
