Norman was born on the Ute Mountain Reservation in Towaoc, Colorado. Finished High School in Cortez, CO and then went to Vocational Technical Institute in Albuquerque, NM in 1971 where he majored in Drafting Design. In 1973 he attended Art School in Lawrence, KS where he majored in Art Education in 1975. He also attended Fort Lewis College in Durango, CO.

Norman has won many awards at art shows across the United States including the Heard Museum Show in Phoenix, AZ, the Gallup Ceremonial in Gallup, NM, the Colorado Indian Market in Denver, CO and others. His pieces are in many private collections across the USA and he has done murals for museums and the tribe in Colorado.
