Michelle Williams

Date of Birth: about 1975
Clan: the Lok'aa'dine'e (Reed People)
Shonto, AZ

Michelle was born into pottery making; Alice Cling is her mother and Rose Williams is grandmother. Alice has many first place ribbons, including Best of Division at the prestigious Santa Fe Indian Market, and Rose is a living treasure of the state of Arizona. MichelleÕs aunts are Sue Ann Williams and Susie Crank, and her aunt by marriage is Lorraine Williams, all are well-known Navajo potters. Michelle's artistic style is much like her mother's. Their beautiful leather-like finish is obtained from a unique red clay slip that is polished to a high gloss with a river stone. After the piñon pitch is applied, excess is wiped off with waxed paper to give the work a distinctive sheen. With such an artistic background, Michelle is likely to become another award-winning artist.
