Marianne grew up within the tradition of pottery making with her mother, Joy Navasie (Frogwoman). She sticks to the traditional methods and designs. She started when she was about twenty-five years old. At that time her mother did the designs and the pots were signed with a pollywog and the initials M.N. as well as the family motif of the frog. Today Marianne signs her pieces with the family frog, the tadpole and just her first initial M. (We have seen some of her pieces that have the tadpole missing.) Her work is very clean and precise and usually a really good bargain in comparison to many other Hopi potters of equal reputation and quality.
