Neil David, Sr.

Born approx. 1944
Resides on First Mesa
(Polacca, Arizona)

Neil is quite an accomplished artist. In addition to his Koshare carvings, for which he is well known, he carves many of the other kachinas with equal skill and charm. He also is at home with drawing, and a paintbrush and canvas, where his subjects are frequently the Hopi children painted as the Koshare. His Koshare pieces always evoke a smile whether carved, drawn or painted. Neil has been published on more than one occasion and has illustrated books on Kachina carving. Neil has a son, Neil Jr. who is following in his footsteps. Some would say a little too closely, as Neil Sr. has had problems with Neil Jr. passing some of his work off as his dad's.
