Gary has been carving full time since 1992. He learned from his father, Jerry Honawa. Gary is of the Badger Clan of Hotevilla on third mesa. He carves almost all of the katsina but will not do the "Chief" katsina such as Ahole. He has participated in some shows, most notably the annual Eight Northern Pueblos show. He is married with two young children. His wife from Santa Clara Pueblo, is a school teacher in Tuba City, Arizona.
